FIFA World Cup

For Fox’s first FIFA Men’s World Cup (Russia 2018), the company wanted to maximize reach and engagement. With 150 hours of original programming in addition to live coverage of each of the 64 matches, it was important to optimize content discovery and promotion as part of the primary user journey, without distracting from primary user goals.

World Cup Hub

CHALLENGE: For this wealth of content, FOX Sports-branded platforms need a centralized portal to collect and present this content in a compelling way.

SOLUTION: The World Cup Hub provides convenient access to all programming. The design and layout changes dynamically—as matches begin and end, as new shows become available, as the tournament progresses.

Match Center

CHALLENGE: Not only does the event need a home, but each match does as well; it must house a uniquely broad set of content, including concurrent “bonus” feeds, commentary, rosters, stats and highlights.

SOLUTION: Create a “Match Center” in FOX Sports App and FOXSports.com that highlights the most relevant content during each phase of the broadcast—pre-match, live, and post-match.

Custom Notifications

CHALLENGE: With exclusive rights to the event, make sure key video—especially real-time goal highlights and overall match highlights—are published under the company brand and served on the company platforms.

SOLUTION: As a key part of the marketing plan, focus on the opportunity to get live updates by downloading the FOX Sports app. Default users to receive key notifications, and provide options to receive more. Develop new workflows to provide instant goal highlights and full match highlights to users within two minutes of real-time events.
